April's Book: "A Long Way Gone" by Ishmael Beah

Before you complain about your job, your commute, or your financial situation please take some time out to think about those less fortunate. I know this sounds cliche, but April's book of the month, "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier" is the harrowing and heart wrenching account of an innocent young boy from Sierra Leone. As a mere teen, Beah was forced into a barbaric, drug-induced world of inconceivable violence. You'll see how an outgoing, hip hop loving thirteen year old transforms into a "boy soldier" -One who is capable of truly terrible acts.
This book is a definite MUST read!!! - If and ONLY if you are ready to dive head first into the brutal truth called "reality". Ishmael's story is one filled with a plethora of emotions; from love to hate, hurt to laughter... He will take you through it and bring you back stronger than you were before. Just like he has done for himself.

*PS- Since I feel this is the ultimate "Must Read" book for the "Educated Honey" I'm considering giving it away at the end of the month... Haven't made up my mind yet. Let me know you're thoughts on that (The most persuasive answer might just get the book!).

Oh, I've been wanting to read this book since I saw Ishmael Beah on the Daily Show a few months back. He was so incredibly poised and soft-spoken, it was hard to believe that he lived through what he did and came out completely not bitter and very strong. Can't wait to read this book! Good choice.

Thanks! Yes- He is definitely serving as an inspiration to others for having been through so MUCH at such a very young age.
