Dear Honey...

I love my readers and I'm grateful to each and everyone who tunes in each day, and even everyone else who might not ;-) . I answer each and every single one of my emails, and I try to help everyone who has a question as best as I can. I decided to share the following email because it might be helpful to someone else, and someone else may also have other suggestions to offer.

I have been reading your blog daily for the past two weeks, I think I am hooked on learning about new products and new ways to enhance my ever-changing look. My newest adventure is growing my hair out of the rut of perms, colors and wash and sets. The two major issues I am having now is one: my hair's two textures, the ever nappy roots, mixed with the fiery red and stringy ends...The other is my temple edges are so fine and almost balding. Right now I am going to get braids, I took your advise by having my ends clipped along with a great deep conditioner. I would love to know of any products I can use to grow my edges back, or any other honey blog sites I can get even more advice from...
Thanks,
Nai-Nai

I'm glad to know that you've cut your ends! Many times, as women of color, we're obsessed with length rather than health and strength. What we fail to understand is that length will come with health. No one wants long, thin, stringy "see-thru" ends... it's not cute. As far as your temples being "fine and almost balding", I'm not sure if braids would be the best option. Not too long ago I posted about Traction Alopecia (click here for the article). Please also check out the The Coil Review- this site is dedicated to "coils" of every size and covers every natural headed issue from A-Z.

For your edges, I would recommend trying Dr. Miracle's Temple & Nape Balm.
I've heard some say it really works well. Has anyone tried this? If so, what are your thoughts?

I co-sign on this product here! It has done wonders for me. You just have to stay consistent with using it and try not to get discouraged when you don't see results right away. Getting used to the "smell" also takes some time too. Great rec!

I agree with you, no one wants long, thin, stringy, "see thru" ends. My hair sometimes look like this when I first get a relaxer making it too straight. I HATE this look. That's why I love it when my hair is thick and full and I keep it that way by getting my ends clipped often. Great idea...posting readers questions.

I haven't tried Dr. Miracle's hair balm yet, but I love some of their other products.

Great answer Wes! I agree, braids are probably hindering improvement to your edges. Also, edges are easily visible; the rest of your hair could be stressed as well. Nai-Nai, when your braids are out, give the balm a couple months and let us know your status! PS conditioner washing is a great way to soften your roots and prevent brakeage at the line of demarcation between natural and relaxed hair. Works 4 me.

After I had my second child I lost some hair near the temples and I tried these supplements: Phytophanere Dietary Supplement - Hair & Nails from Phyto. You can find these online or at Sephora. You just have to be patient and use two bottles. I agree with the other comments, do not braid your hair and continue to get the ends trimmed. Good luck.

I've read a lot of lot for this product. The one thing negative that I've heard about Dr. Miracle is your hair may break off or become damaged if you discontinue using the products.

i think it's good that you gave your honest opinion...my best friend had micros for several years, and is a victim of TA...now she always has bangs...but they still look cute on her!

Thanks HONEYS for the great advice, okay, okay I know the extensions are not the best thing but the only reason I had to do braids at this point in my transformation, is because it is extremely hot and humid in the NYC and I sweat something awful, plus in my career, I have to be right at work daily...My braids are medium sized boxed braids, they are not tight at all. I took Wes's advice and got the Temple Balm for Dr. Miracle's...I use it twice a day on my edges.

I am still researching and getting a lot of information on how I can take care and maintain my natural hair once the braids are out. I am hoping at the end of the summer when these braids are gone, I will spend my week of vacation on homemade recipes and hairstlye testing to find my niche.

You HONEYS are the best! Thanks again for the advice.
