Do you Mix, Chick?

With so many new products coming onto the scene for natural hair, it's getting to be hard to find one product and stick with it. Mixed Chicks, created by Wendi Levy and Kim Etheredge have dedicated Mixed Chicks to the various textures of mixed and ethnic hair types.
Honestly, it took me awhile to give this product a try because I thought it was really for mixed chicks (like 2B/3A textures). I finally was able to experience all of what Mixed Chick's has to offer- the shampoo, deep conditioner, and the leave-in conditioner/styling cream.

Mixed Chicks Shampoo ($11.99): I like the shampoo. It removes build up and also has uv blockers. It's not very aromatic though, this may not matter to most but I love hair products with great scents.

Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner ($10.99): I'm a fiend for a great conditioner. I really like this conditioner because I would use it (I'm almost out of it already!) to keep down my edges whenever I wore my two little Pocahontas braids. It prevented me from using my hair gel (which I'm trying to stay away from). This has a good, light scent.

Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner/Styling Cream ($16.99): The first time I tried this I used it as a styling cream, which is also not aromatic. I really liked the fact that it didn't alter the natural shape of my curls but it didn't last very long and was just a little drying. I had to co-wash my hair the second day to keep it looking fresh. I now use it as a leave-in conditioner only (by applying a quarter sized amount), and then proceed to styling with my still favorite product, Kinky Curly Custard.

Have you tried Mixed Chicks before? Would you consider it?

*On their myspace page, Wendi and Kim have also said that Mixed Chicks isn't just for curly hair only and the shampoo and deep conditioner can be used to straighten hair.

Hi Wes, did these products work for you? Did they help define your curls?

I’ve been hearing good things about these products (from mixed women) but I’m a little confused by their marketing plan. With any foresight one would know that potential customers would be hindered from buying when they are not “mixed” or do not have “curly” hair. It is confusing and a nuisance to have to put disclaimers up about your product. Those that do a little research before buying see the co-owners pictures, mixed and curly, identifying their projected customer. I’m just saying most people just want an easy buy and most owners want their product to sell well. I wouldn’t even think to use “Redken Blond Glam Shampoo”… OR I could be looking too deep into this… ( = That said, any reviews ladies?

I've never used their products, but Mixed Chicks sounds like it is something that a friend of mine would definitely try. I'll pass this info on to her.

Btw, HBS, what does "co-wash," mean? Please, excuse my ignorance! LOL

I've heard of the product before, but was hesitant in purchasing. As Tight mentioned, I'm not mixed but I'd be open to using the products. I love leave in conditioners, so that'll probably be where I start.

@ Tiffany: It definitely DID help to define my natural curl pattern but it started getting frizzy on the 2nd day.

@ Tightambitionz: I completely agree w/ you, I never look twice at those Redken products. Thats exactly why it took me so long to try the Mixed Chicks.

@ BGG: Co-Wash means to 'conditioner wash'... I usually use shampoo once maybe twice a week. Otherwise, I'll just do a quick rinse w/ the Conditioner.

OOOHHH! This looks like fun. I love natural products....the name does throw you off at first, but w/your co-sign I think I'm going to try it out!

I read the ingredients list on this stuff.... and it still makes me reluctant to use it. The leave in conditioner has amodimethiconein it and I'm trying to stay away...
