Keeping Yourself Healthy & Breast Cancer Free

Thanks to the Shine network on Yahoo, I found the following tips on how to keep your breasts healthy and cancer-free. For detailed information, click here.

1. Exercise!!: 45 to 60 minutes of cardio atleast three days per week will lower the levels of estrogen, which is linked to breast cancer.

2. Slim & Fit: Many obese women who are past menopause are at high risk of breast cancer. Staying in shape and exercisingly regularly are great ways to help lower your chances.

3. Take Vitamin D: A lot of studies being conducted have demonstrated the cancer-fighting power of this vitamin. According to the American Society of Clinical Oncologists: Breast cancer patients who were deficient in vitamin D were 94% more likely to have their cancer spread than women with adequate D levels.

4. Skip the Margarita: New studies show that women who have one or two drinks daily increase their risk of the most common kind of breast cancer by 32%.

5. No self-exams? As women, every doctor always asks if you do your monthly breast examinations. However, you might be surprised to learn that it is now considered optional. Some studies have found that it doesn't save lives and can increase the odds of an unnecessary biopsy. Most doctors aren't totally disregarding the self exam though. <--I personally think this claim can be debated though- What do you think??
