Purses are getting lighter and pockets are getting tighter. Everyone is in a crunch these days (Including Puffy who recently ditched his private jet due to increasing fuel prices). As a female, we spend so much money keeping up appearances that we often end up spending money we didn't really have to spend in the first place. Below are a few tips to help you save those imperative funds!:-Hair: If you don't already please starting DOING YOUR OWN HAIR! I understand you need a trim, that's understandable, but honeys please stay out of the salon as much as possible.
Average wash & set: $25-$40
*Getting hair done every two weeks for a year: about $600-$960
*Try taking that wash & set money to the bank every two weeks instead.
-Manicures/Pedicures: Probably one the best and most easiest ways to save money, start doing your own mani & pedi's. I can't stress it enough! For me, I find that I end up doing a better job than most salons. A midtown mani & pedi usually goes for about $40
*Getting nails done every week for a year: $ 1,920.... Take it to the bank!!
-Eyebrows: I know many of you girls love-love-love your "threading ladies" but if you feel comfortable enough try plucking (or threading!) them yourself instead. The usual going price for threading here in NYC is about $6
*Getting eyebrows done every two weeks for a year: $144... Once again: Take it to the bank!!
Note: None of the above quotes include TIPS...
I think I've just inspired myself!! I usually do all of the above, however, I have a weakness for beauty products (that's where I lack). I will easily spend $50 on makeup in Macy*s (I know, it's shameful). I promise to do my best though.... Will you??

great tips! i've definitely cut out the manis and pedis...but not the makeup :( i've put myself on a budget this month though and i'm trying to stick to it!
I have the whole wax kit at home. The warmer, the strips, the sticks. Haven't used it in weeks. But as for products. I Still using my Carol's Daughters till the bottles are empty, but that Avon lady at work has been making some money off me lately. A lot of money.
I definitely do my own hair...although I probably should seek a stylist every once and a while!! LOL
I hate doing manis/pedis at home because they never look as good as when I go to the nail salon.
Great post!
Great post Wes!
I've started doing all the above at home bcz I hate giving money to people when I know I can do the same, if not better, job myself. The money looks so much better in my savings account. : )
Really...no nails?!? I can do the others, but I don't know about the nails...
Great tips Wes - love them!
Yeah times are hard right now...I've definitely cut back a lot the past year and a half (before this crazy meltdown). I'm on a plan to be credit-card debt free so to get there I do not carry any credit cards on me...I just carry my banking card so whatever I buy is using my own $ so I feel it more and it makes me make sure I'm getting what I need not what I want.
Sista, you ain't never lied! I do my own hair, manicures and pedicures. I only get the brows done twice a month and that's $16/month. It's great that I can save so much money and that I can indulge in self-beautification!
Hey Wes,
I do my hair myself now as well except when i need a relaxer or trim... Although I've thought about trying trimming on my own. My eye brows i ALWAYS end up buchering them so I have to visit pinky's b4 the cattapilars show up...
But i try to do the best I can

good tips, although I must admit I stopped all of the above along time ago in an effort to increase my emergency fund.
Great post, I can do my hair and my own mani and pedis, but I love getting pampered. I'm so damn spoiled. lol
Great tips!
I do my own mani/pedi and brows, but get my hair done once a week.
My student loans are paid off and my credit card is in my bank safe deposit box with a zero balance. Debt-free except for the mortgage, which I hope to knock out in the next two years.
Again, good and timely post!
It is a good idea to save but doing this will also put these people out of business.
Since I've been doing things on my own, I've noticed a difference in my disposable funds (in conjunction with gas prices going down in GA). This was a major help for me, and I'm amazed at how much I'm saving.
I've been on the budget since I've been in college. However, I can't resist getting my eyebrows and hair done for special occasions at least once a month. Thanks for the tips thought I'll keep following them.
