-When I got home, I washed and conditioned my hair as usual. Now I'm no chemist, but following the directions on the bottle of glycerin, I mixed one part to a little more than two parts of water in a spray bottle. I then added about a 1/2 teaspoon of the jojoba oil and shook.
-I work on my hair from the bottom up- in sections. For each section, I sprayed the glycerin solution and worked some of the shea butter through it. I found this to be a little difficult, but I managed.
I let my hair air dry (it actually dried much quicker than usual). I was afraid of the outcome but it actually came out better than I imagined. Being that my hair is 3B/C-ish, it usually looks best when the curls are defined. I don't want them TOO defined though; I like BIG, poufy-ness (without frizz!) and just a little definition (this takes me back to my vintage Kelis post).
Before I go to sleep, I pile my hair high up on my head with a ponytail holder (this pic was taken after it had already dried):
This was the next day:

I'm still in the experimental stage. If you're familiar with these natural products please drop a comment below and educate us! I know I'm always looking for a "better" way.
*NOTE: Tomorrow I'll provide an update to the outcome!

Beautiful hair! I need to try that combo of ingredients as I'm also running low on my curly products and I really need to stretch my dollars.
awww i love it!
Your hair is gorgeous, and you're so damn beautiful too. Big Hugs, De
I've never tried these products in their natural state. I'm working my way into a regimen. I'll give it a try.
I've been curious to try the glycerin thing...I've been reading the Keep It Simple Sista blog and Traycee (the founder) uses Glycerin a lot you can get a lot of info from her...your hair came out GREAT!!!! :) You have great curls!!!
I love your hair!! So pretty and has great texture!
Your hair is so lovely!
i second dominican enigma
Ohmigoooodness, your curls are insane. I absolutely LOVE your hair! Just beautiful, Wes. You and the curls!
I've been using glycerin and water when I do maintenance twists at night. CurlyChronicles suggested in one of her videos that you should never work with hair when completely dry and suggested the glycerin and water. I didn't know the ratio, though, so I just guessed. It's working so far...
Sooooooooo....I think I'm coveting your curlies right about now. Your hair looks great. Keep using the natural products they are so much better for your hair.
i love the "idea" of all natural... but i'm ALL about performance ingredients... i would love to find something that WORKS and has the best combination of stuff for my hair, health-wise...
I haven't tried that combination but here are some things I have tried:
1. Curly Pudding: Miss Jessie's (when I have money, this is my fave, using a small amount and working it in to my damp hair leaves my hair defined but not frizzy and allow for a little swell... blow drying with this, still curly--gives it more volume for rockstar look)
2. Mixed Chicks (didn't like that it left my hair flakey, not scalp but the hair)
3. Bronner Brothers (BB) Oil Moisturizer (Budget status, keeps it moisturized, not overusing is key and allows me to wear curly for 3 days)
4. anything i can get my hands on--i've use regular Suave conditioner at times and it's done the trick... but it's not exactly healthy for the hair... provides no real moisture
I want to try that Devacurl, I keep seeing it at Ricky's but right now I'm on the new savings kick... borrowing dresses, using all of those millions of products that I constantly buy and never use... Sometimes I end up looking rough for a day but thats why I keep a ponytail holder on the wrist!
Glycerine is fine in moderation and as long as you don't live somewhere cold or in the winter time. It can have harsh effects on your hair in cold weather. A good all natural line of conditioners is Aubrey Organics. You can get an 11oz. bottle for about $8.
