(Originally posted 4/9/08: Something to keep in mind for 2009. HAPPY NEW YEAR!)One of my favorite and most inspirational movies happens to be "Akeelah and the Bee". I think this movie not only inspires others but also motivates people of all ages. If you are familiar with the movie than you ought to remember this poem; the one that Akeelah often quotes and reads throughout the movie:
Our Deepest Fear
by Marianne Williamson
(from Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles)
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate -
our deepest fear is that
we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be
brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?"
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are born to make manifest
the Glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
I love this poem and I keep a copy of it stuck on my monitor both at work and at home. Hope you find it as useful (and meaningful) as I have. Have an excellent weekend!
