I had the pleasure of viewing a private screening of "The Soloist" (Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.) yesterday evening. Now, I don't know about you but I've been waiting for the release of this movie for almost a year now! So, you can imagine how delighted I was to have finally seen the previews over the weekend.
.
Jamie Foxx does an excellent portrayal of Nathaniel Ayers- certainly worthy of an Oscar nod. Capturing Paranoid Schizophrenia in all of it's mystifying darkness is no easy feat. In reading the notes provided on "The Soloist" at the presentation, I found that Jamie had undergone extensive training for Cello and Violin playing (Yes: He's really playing the instruments in the movie). Foxx separated himself from "real" life and lived in a tiny apartment, practicing on his instruments and getting into character. He's quoted as saying, "...it was tough... because I had to try to submerge myself into the mind of a schizophrenic in order to really understand what Nathaniel's journey is all about. You have to kind of slip off the deep end a bit, and the biggest challenge was letting go."

A superb movie very well done- Check out the trailer below and be sure to hit up your local movie theater on April 24th!
