Anywho, did you watch the awards? If so, I want to know what you think. I chose several scenes I thought were rathering interesting, to say the least. Check it out...
Exhibit A:
I thought the Jody & Yvette bit was cute but when Ving Rhames came on the scene I thought it was a bit much and really unnecessary. His role in Baby Boy wasn't even like that if I'm not mistaken. Not sure what they were trying to prove with this one.... Any thoughts?

Exhibit B:
All I have to say is that I'm sooooo glad Ne-yo came to help them out!! Whew!

Exhibit C:
I really love the "Every Girl" beat, but the song is extremely crass. I don't know if this was really appropriate for the awards (and aren't the girls underage?)

Exhibit D:
Jamie! He did a great job at hosting- he kept the audience laughing and I think that the Sheneneh and Wanda movie REALLY needs to hit the theaters soon. For real.

Please feel free to share any other outstanding moments- whether you loved it or hated it!

Hey Wes!!!
I agree with you 110%% about the Martin and Jamie movie!!! That would be a gooood laugh!!!!!!!!!
The BET awards were a H.A.M!!!!
Some parts were good...others....ehhhh...
And when Don was presenting the O'Jays their award....i couldn't take it!!!! There are no words to explain that mess!!!
@ Keara: Lucky for me I had taped it, so I was able to speed through Don's LENGTHY speech... lol
jamie was the perfect host b/c he could keep the balance. it was sad when janet came out, i don't know how she did it. keri hilson's performance was ok but the end when she tried to mimic mj's call and response thing was kind of pointless. and seriously that wanda/shenehneh movie has got to hit the screens it would be hilarious!!
I loved the Wanda and Shanene movie spoof that was hilarious.
The kids up there with Drake are Tiny (TI's fiance) and Toya (Lil' Wayne's ex-wife) children.
All in all I enjoyed it for the most part. And Janet Jackson almost had me in tears.
I thought Ciara was horrible, and they should have gotten other people to perform, cause Jamie Foxx and Neyo were up there all night!!! It's plenty of other good singers.
And did anyone catch the faces that Johnny Girl was making when he performed?!? Lord jesus, it was halarious. lol
Yes the whole show had highs and lows. Was expecting and was left wanting more of a tribute, since that was what BET stated that there was going to be.
It was beautiful to see Janet and sad as well. That was great for her to speak for the fans.
The group The OMG Girls - Wayne and Toya's daughter, and Tiny's Daughter (not T.I.'s real daughter) with 2 of their friends, were the pre teens on stage dancing next to Drake like some video girls. I thought that was sooooo inappropriate. I think Drake should have just did Best I Ever Had and called it a day. Every Girl is too explicit for the show, especially with the direction they were trying to take the show. How do you say "I wanna F*** every girl in the world" in the same breath with "Rest In Peace Michael Jack"????
Jamie did a good job to me, I was rolling. The Don Cornelius bit was lengthy but its been years since he's had a platform so he took full advantage. LOL!!
The OJay's tribute was a great highlight, all of the men did a wonderful job.
Maxwell, Maxwell, Maxwell!!!! Yum,Yum, Yummy!!!
Tyrese made me miss his music. I know the movies pay more but come on!
Ne-yo did a great job with his tribute and bringing back Guy, BBD and I'm missing one, but yea that was a highlight. And to see Tevin Campbell too!!!
Ginuwine, Usher and Chris Brown should have performed last night!
There's so much more to say, but I've said enough. lol
i was disappointed. neyo and jamie did a good job with their tributes along with keke...everyone else blowed. the ojays were good but a bit too long. they sounded better than all the youngsters..black music is dead..i'm so disgusted..oh yeah, maxwell was good but boring. i saw him concert. i just feel that everyone should've been singing MJ...i didn't want to hear crappy souljah boy, lil wayne, even ave maria....i wanted MJ!
There were definitely some questionable moments (Drake performing on a stool w/ the kids, skipping nominees to give winners, and Ving Rhames' "Guns" thing), but overall I wasn't mad at it. Considering that they revamped the entire show in three days (and it turned out better than some of the past BET Awards where they had planned for months), I was pleasantly surprised.
I was sooo happy to see Monica! She looked flawless and sang so well...
Jamie Foxx did right by MJ in his opening performance. Everyone else's tribute was unrehearsed and sub par. Looks like Tacky Tina is still styling Beyonce. Joe Jackson had no business on the red carpet or at the show for that matter. Plugging his record company under the circumstance was classless.
I'm still in shock over MJ's passing.
Thanks to Twitter, I kinda felt like I watched the show. But for the most part, I purposely didn't turn it on. Dang, I didn't even think about watching it soley for make-up/fashion looks. I suck. LOL!
Ne-yo's performances really made the show to me! If not for him and Janet's appearance, I might have been a little disappointed. I really am glad they dedicated the entire show to MJ though. He deserves so much!
I agree with the Every girl in the world performance, he has atleast one other song he could have performed...Janet jackson looked great considering.
I'm not sure what Beyonce was going for..
Tiny is really ghetttooo!!!
Jamie Fox was hilarious... Monica stole the performance with Keyshia Cole.
Did we forget Maxwell?????
I think he deserves props, even though he cut his hair... he's still my man! lol not really, but ya'll get the point!
I didn't watch the BET Awards. BET disappoints me way too much for me to even try to watch any of their programming, lol. I've never heard a Drake song before (I don't listen to the radio - at all) but I decided to check out the "crass" lyrics you mentioned. Yikes! Gasp! What the Bejessus!? No need for quotes on crass now that I know the lyrics. I didn't think it could be THAT bad. Where care these songs playing?! There's P word and D word all up in there. And then to have minors dancing on stage with you? Gag! Pedophile.
I had to change the channel while Drake/Lil Wayne and crew were on, it was so disturbing on so many levels! I thought the Baby Boy stuff was a bit much and couldn't believe Vingh Reihms, it was over the top. On another note, Jamie was the perfect host he is very talented, I was so excited to see New Edition/BBD/Guy there. Their voices weren't the same but it was great anyway. I LOVED Alicia Keys hair and makeup, I must have that lip color immediately. MAXWELL- I LOVE U NOW AND ALWAYS!!! (ok Jamie's into to Maxwell was funny as hell and on point)
I love Beyonce but I was confused by her performance as well. I will say this I've never seen Ave Maria performed in a teddy. Did anyone else wonder if the Keri Hilson camp had rehersed their routine?
I was so ashamed watching the BET awards. I only watched because they were making a tribute to Michael and the songs they chose to perform had me questioning things. Drake's song was disgusting, and considering he was performing with kids around him was even more sickening. That man has some problems. I would never have allowed them to play a song like that in tribute to someone who died.
I'll give props to Jamie though, he was definately funny and I loved how he he always referenced to Michael in some way.
Janet almost brought me to tears though.
I pray for Michael and the Jackson family.
I was very annoyed by the face that the presenters only announced the winners of each award, and did not say who the other nominees in the category were!!! They could have said the names of the other people up for the award...
Yea, When Wayne was doin his song, it was pretty weird havin those young girls on stage. One of those gurls were Lil Wayne's Daughter, so that made it extremely weird to me lol. But overall, the BET awards was pretty entertaining.
I enjoyed the show. It was kind of long, but had great moments.
I loved Maxwell and Tevin Campbell, their voices were heavenly. I enjoyed seeing Keith Sweat, Guy and BBD. Alicia Keys was so classy and moving. Jamie was an energetic, funny host. Janet was dignified and epitomized love for family.
The best part was how everyone thanked their fans. Sometimes celebrities forget what it means to be a fan, and don't want the attention. But with Michael's passing, they remembered what fans they were of him, and how their idols influence and move them. Their gift to us cannot be truly expressed without our appreciation. And our appreciation makes their gifts last forever.
Wow!! Totally agree with you. I was appauled when Ving asked the crowd to say MJ was guns.. Are you kidding me? So in appropriate. Drake had no buisness having those children on stage for that song. Keri Hilson tried a little too hard at the end of her performance. Beyonce was WAY too dramatic with that performance.
I thought parts of it were a little offensive to MJ.
Like Keri Hilson, I'm sorry but her performance sucked. Especially the part where she was like, "This is bad, real bad, Michael Jackson....Now I'm mad, real mad, Joe Jackson....Michael Jackson...Michael Jackson....and so on" I'm like, wooow! As much as I dont like Joe, he's in the front row Keri!!!
Anddd thennn....a lot of Jamie's jokes about Mike were innapropriate. I know he was trying to lighten the mood but talking about the dead in that manner was wrong and he knew it.
But what I'm HIGHLY PISSED at was JOE JACKSON plugging his lame-o record company a million Xs and bringing all his record ppl to the awards. I know people grieve in their own ways, but this man was coldd.....
oh yeah---Y'all know Chris Brown was supposed to open last night??
Yup- I was on BET & that night & it said like for their Twitter ad "Breezy is opening the show" or something...I was like, who is "Breezy"?
Not until after Jamie performed did I find out who Breezy was....hmmm..a lot of people are saying Jay-Z threatened BET not to let Chris perform....madness...
Ok, so glad to know who those little girls were on stage w/Drake - but it doesn't make it better. I was appalled! How disgusting to see these young girls popping their booties and hugging up on Drake while Jeezy is out there talking about slipping his d#@% in a chick. I mean, WHAT??? Who the hell thought that this was ok??? And I agree - following a "I wish I could f#@% every girl in the world" with a "RIP MJ" does not really go together. At all. I think Michael would be disgusted.
Now that I've finished my rant - lol - I really do love Ne-yo. He can REALLY sing! And I would love more music fr Tyrese too. It was nice seeing Tevin Campbell looking "normal" again - lol. Would love to hear more fr him too! I think a Ginuwine and Usher performance was definitely in order. Too bad.
And the whole Ving Rhames thing was just weird.
I think Keri's performance should've stopped when the music stopped; but I'll give it to her for trying. She just tried a lil' too hard...
I could've done w/out Ciara. Beyonce sounded wonderful. (But I am ROFL about this comment fr Anonymous: "I've never seen Ave Maria performed in a teddy". - Me either - hahaha!)
Keke Palmer should've had her own performance. That girl has some lungs on her! I think Monica out-sung Keyshia. And Alicia Keys looked amazing! (I agree about needing that lip color immediately - lol!)
I think Ne-yo and Jamie carried the show. But it was disappointing that there weren't more artists to fill more spots. What has happened to R&B? And why can't singers actually sing anymore???
There was some professionalism lacking in the program (um...who was editing the curses, because they missed most of them; and who was cueing Jamie, because he never knew when cameras were live). But at the end of the day, I'll give BET credit simply for overhauling their entire program in 3 days.
*sigh*
I still can't believe Michael is gone.
Well most of my thoughts have already been posted but,I thought the show was a serious, hot ghetto mess. Basically the performances were inappropriate and vulgar to say the least, and I was thinking the same thing someone said above... about how Drake and Lil Wayne were performing "I wish I could f&*! every girl in the world" while they had under-aged girls dancing on them and then say "This is for you Mike"- how incredibly inappropriate.
Some parts were nice, like the tribute to the O'Jays and the SheNene movie preview (funny!) but overall I thought it was a sad excuse for an "award show."
Michael DEFINITELY deserved better. Point blank.
