For those TWA's out there...

Teeny weeny afro's! This is for you... HBS has been kind of neglectful towards those short haired honeys but today's post is dedicated to YOU. Last Thursday my mom asked me to come over and do her hair for her. She is one of those women who doesn't like to spend time on her hair (at all). If she can't literally shake and go in the morning, she doesn't want any part of it.
Typically, she wears her hair straight, yes-- her hair is RELAXED (wash & set from the Dominican salon). However, in the summer time she wants to wear it curly.

I used Pantene's Relaxed & Natural conditioner as the leave in. The following two pics are when it was in the drying process (still damp). I used my fingers to form each curl into place.

This photo was taken once it was about 95% dry. I used my fingers to separate and fluff each curl.
*It took me about 15 minutes to distribute the conditioner evenly around her head. The curls lasted long for her! I did this on a Thursday night and on Sunday in church it still looked good.

*Now, if you're like my mom and don't like to spend too much time on your hair, you don't have to single out, form and separate each curl. I told her that she could liberally apply the conditioner and use her hands to scrunch but don't touch until dry. (I actually didn't have problems with frizz on her hair. Some parts were still slightly damp as I began to separate the curls and there was no FRIZZ, anywhere!)

I love her silver hair. I can't wait for my mother to BC.

Hey Wes,

Could you please describe more in detail how you form and separate the curls?

Thanks so much!

Your mom has beautiful hair. I transitioned for about 1 year, so I never had a TWA. But these pics make me want one. Maybe one day, I'll brave a big chop! I'll be stopping by again. I love the sweet posts here!

@ BKRain: It's a little difficult to explain but most curls "clump" together and I just work with that. I don't try to fight the natural curl pattern I just flow with it. I take each piece and twirl it with my fingers, just to make them all more uniform. It's actually very easy to do, it's not hard at all.

her color reminds me of my moms. she only bced when she was going through chemo and went back to a bone straight relaxer shortly afterwards! needless to say i was highly disappointed. your mom's hair is relaxed or natural? either way it's beautiful.
