Friday's Dessert 7/24/09

I didn't get to see the entire Black In America series this week, but I did get to see the last half hour of the second show. With that being said, I found the following words from Tyler Perry to be quite interesting...

"Did you know you can't say 'Jesus' in a sitcom? They told me that and I was like, you gotta be kiddin' me. If you don't want my God here, you don't want me here either. God has been too good to me to go and try to sell out to get some money. It ain't gonna happen." -Tyler Perry

Amen to that! Have a fantabulous weekend ;-)

You know i can relate to this...LOL
Never part w/ your integrity not even for money!!

Me, Myself and I said...

I find it so telling when people like Tyler Perry, several well known TV pastors and the like are proclaiming Jesus with their mouths but living Satan in their life.

Tyler Perry is making money perpetuating the absolute worst of the black community and living a lie (claiming he is straight, looking for a wife) while keeping several ATL men living lavishly!

His TV shows, have a Mammy type, mean man type, former crack addict, sassy black girl and THEN to have the males attracted to Non black females on top of that- hispanic women "Tempting" them.

Tyler Perry is a fool and we all know Jesus looks out for FOOLS and Babies.

Go Tyler! I watched BIA 2 last night and thought that it was so refreshing to see some of our achievements highlighted and not just our shortcomings.

Amen to that, Black In America special was very inspiring. There were so many different programs out there to uplift us as Black people we just need to go out and look for them, we need to want better for ourselves.

And yet years ago he said he wouldn't agree to a sitcom deal with some network because he couldn't say "Jesus"....a couple years later he turns around & walks away from his vow?

He said it after one of his plays were performed, onstage in front of a bunch of people...Before all the movies & $$ deals.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people judge this man's personal life without knowing anything about it. To me, his message is one of redemption through his characters' mistakes turning to triumph by getting in touch with God. Rumors about his sexuality and the accusatory rumors about other prominent AA men's sexuality truly upset me because you don't hear other groups trying to bring down their successful men with accusations about their manhood (like we do w/Will Smith, John Legend, etc.). Whatever the case, he has come a long way from being a little poor & abused child to accomplish major things in Hollywood and put lots of AA's to work in an industry that likes to pretend we don't exist. The truth is while we do have crackheads, sassy grandmothers/aunts, obnoxious uncles, we also have the lawyers, blue-collar workers, teachers, and executives he also shows in his work. Take it all in and see the big picture. Judgement is for God alone to make. JMHO
