The Results...

Not really what I was expecting- I presumed if I was using some kind of leave in conditioner with a water base, I would've gotten more definition. There was no way these waves were going to hold up once I hit the pavement.

I ended up throwing it back into a simple pony.

Back to the drawing board!

Yeah, it looks kind of flat, but your hair is so long and silky!

Youre eyebrows are the bomb by the way!

You should try this, I think it would help you achieve the wavy look you were going for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKekAwvkFVQ&feature=player_embedded

If this doesn't work, I'd try two strand flat twists all the way back, the bigger the section the bigger the wave. Both no heat options for a wavy look. Good luck!

Hi Wes,

If first you don’t succeed try, try again 

I commented on your 1st post "DEEP WAVE" a while back stating i get the deep wave look in a very similar way (I do everything you do excluding the flat iron. in addition to using twists i/o braids).. I feel the flat iron causes the hair to be TOO straight ending in what you've experienced. Try blow drying the hair in the same brick layer pattern. Continue by braiding each section DIRECTLY after blow drying that section while still “hot”. The heat will help to maintain the wave from the braids.

Also I was going to say this in your Thursday post but decided to wait for the results: your braids appeared very loose and you didn’t braid to the ends. I think you should try a tighter plait next time and wrap the braid around itself in buns being sure to wrap the end of the braid the tightest at the based to avoid pin straight ends. Doing this should help achieve more shape/body to the over all look. Especially since we love love big hair :o)

Hi, Try doing a part in the center with two french braids. Trust me you get a wonderful braidout with that method. Love your hair anyway, it looks so shiny and healthy.

I second what sunyblack said about two strand flat twists all the way back. I get results very similar to a 3 barrel iron when I wear that style however I have yet to try it on flat ironed straight hair. Also you might want to try this technique:

...although the waves might be larger than what you were trying to achieve. All in all i think your hair looks fabulous no matter what you do to it & your eyebrows are indeed flawless.

Your hair is so healthy - and it's grown so much - beautiful!

I agree w/T Monte. Next time don't straighten it quite so much, braid to the end, and put sponge or silk rollers in just the ends (to hold the braid and keep from being bone straight at the bottom).

I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but maybe you could have tried big bantu knots in place of the plaits. Bantu knots on straight hair usually result in bouncy waves that last (plus the ends wave too b/c it gets tucked underneath the knot so it sets well).

Have you tried Bantu Knots?

7-10 knots in your hair will give a good deep wave..

Bantu knots work for sure! But you could also try foam rollers (the big/medium staw ones). Once you take them out you can choose between wearing the hair curly or loosen the curls to produce a looser pattern.
