No "troubles" today, so I'll pose the following question instead...
While transitioning to natural hair, do you think it's a good idea to wear braided extensions (rather than BC'ing)? Why or why not?

I wore kinky twists as I transitioned. I waited until I had about 2 inches of natural hair and then I BCed. I found it difficult to deal with the two different textures of hair. I also chose kinky twists rather than braids because they spared my edges.
I think to each their own. Transitioning is a unique experience and what works for one, may not work for another. Personally, I do not want to wear braids - - be it for transitioning or just to change it up. I like weaves or wearing my hair natural.
I wore braided extensions for a period of six months. It made dealing with two different texture much much easier. When I finally got them out I had a nice amount of new growth to work with and was more than ready to chop off the relaxed part.
i choose to wear kinky twist cause it gave my hair a break and gave me a chance to fully research natural hair.
that depends on your hairline. if you have a strong hairline and thick strands of hair, i say go for the braids. however, if you normally experience breakage around your hairline and/or you have very fine strands of hair... don't do braids.
Honestly, it just depends on the person. My best friend gave me the best advice ever when everybody else was telling me to BC... "just do what works for you". I would say the same thing to anybody transitioning. I personally was not a fan of really really short hair on me and was unwilling to have it. So I waited and cut 3 inches every 3 months until I was completely natural. It worked. I'm soo happy I did it that way....
I also transitioned with kinky twist for about 4 months, and then the rest of my 7 month transition was with a sew in and other different styles. It definitely did help me deal with the two textures and i didn't experience breakage around my hairline..but like the other ladies said, just do what works for you !
Micro braids were my only transition option..I DID NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH TWO TEXTURES.LOL..so I cut after I had 2 1/2 inches. I wished I had waited though because the next time I got braids my braids were thinner than usual and not as full beacuse I had cut my hair..
I preferred braids. Everytime I took my braids out, I cut off some of the permed hair. I did this for a year and now my hair is back to the same length it was when I had it permed. To each her own, but like one commentor said, if you do not have a strong hairline, opt for something else
i'm gonna agree with most and say it's up to the person. my best friend never even had braids, she would just get a blowout once a month, and her beautician cut her ends each time, until she only had about 2 inches of relaxed hair left, which she got cut. since i didn't have that option, i just braided my hair and tried to press it...then i just cut it, lol. it's really whatever works best for you.
Like someone mentioned earlier transitioning is a process thats unique to the person doing that. What worked for me might not have worked for them, so its a "to each their own" situation. I chose to transition (as short as it was) using kinky twists. I had my last relaxer the last day in Jan, kinky twist 6 weeks post, and kept that style for 2 months. I found that afterwards dealing with the two textures were too much so I decided to just BC. I think if you decide to transition using braids it will make it harder for you to work with two textures because your hiding your hair and not getting that experience. It can be beneficial if you dont want to deal with your hair during that time but if not your missing out on seeing what works for your hair. Some days I wish I would've transitioned longer, other days I wish I would've BCed from the beginning. We live and we learn.
I think braids are a great idea for those who do not want to cut off all their hair at once, yet don't want to deal with two textures. You can grow your hair to a length you are comfortable with and then cut off the relaxed ends. Of course, it's important to not get them too small too tight, or leave them in for more than 3 months. I love braids.
