Does it Really Work? Smooth Away

We've ALL seen the commercials by now. Smooth Away, a crystallized pad that when rubbed in a circular motion on the skin, removes unwanted hair. I've often stared in awe at the commercial but was skeptical about its effectiveness. I've even almost picked it up at Walgreen's (for a whopping $9.99) but just wasn't thirsty enough, and ended up putting it back on the shelf.

Recently though, I saw it on sale in Florida for about $3.00. I immediately thought, here's my chance! 3 bucks won't hurt so much if it's a fluke. So, after showering that evening, I took out all of the parts and thoroughly read the directions. It is suggested that you gently rub 3 circles clockwise and then 3 circles counter-clockwise on dry, un-moisturized skin for every section.

I was amazed at first, it really did remove the hair. I have thick, coarse hair on my legs and didn't think anything aside from a razor or wax could remove it- so you can imagine my excitement. However, I ended up having to go over the leg a second time with a new pad. The hair was gone, but my legs didn't have that silky smooth feeling that they do with regular shaving. I also noticed the next day that the stubble was much more rough than usual.

I won't be buying this again.
So there ya have it... Have you ever tried Smooth Away?

RETURN, i bought it and yes it works some extend. I tried in various areas and only the legs work because you need to use it on tight skin. Also its not as easy as you see on the TV, you have to use allot of elbow grease to use it. I just buy an epilator

I've tried Smooth Away and ended up using it all this summer. My skin is really sensitive, so most hair removal methods tend to irritate it. Smooth Away takes a while to remove the hair, but I just do it while I'm sitting in front of the tv. It works for me because I don't have that much body hair and it grows relatively slowly, so I only have to do below my knees and once I've removed the hair completely, I only have to touch it up about twice a week. The pads last me a while, and my skin feels silky smooth the first day, though the hair grows back a lot more quickly than with other methods.

No it doesn't work! It make your legs smooth but doesn't get rid of no hair.

I have one sitting in the closet as we speak. I've tried these in the past for the fine hairs on my forearms and it worked well. It did apparently exfoliate some skin, though, as I had a "stinging" sensation the next day and I could not figure out why and then I put two and two together. I would use it again on my forearms, but I prefer waxing.

I have a set and refills, and I like this product. However I have fine hair on my legs so I only usually have to use one pad per leg. I use it more for fine facial hairs .. that's where it works best for me. I don't use it on my underarms at all.

A similar product has been on sale in the U.K for years, and I tried it when I was a teen about 10 years ago. I thought it felt very much like rubbing fine grade sand paper on my skin. The result was red, sore skin. I learnt my lesson in my teens and will not be using it again. I was actually suprised when my mom who lives in FL told me the product was now on sale in the US!

HATED IT. I bought the one for facial hair, I rubbed lightly and felt like I had rubbed my skin raw and it felt scabbed the next day. I will NOT purchase again.

Tried it. It worked on my arms (fine hair), but I noticed that it took extra effort on my legs (coarser hair). It even started to burn alittle when I rubbed, so I had to do it very, very gently. I also noticed that it left a white coating on my skin. Like ash. Yuck. I had to moisturize with vaseline to make my skin supple again. All of this defeated the purpose. I wanted something that I could use in place of the razor, that wouldn't take up too much time. Something I could throw in my purse to use whenever I wanted I felt a few stray hairs starting to emerge. I decided I would not buy it again. Too much hassle.I paid 9.99 at Walmart.

I tried it and also had the same results, though my friends with straight hair had no problem.

I have tried these and they suck! They don't work on people with course hair. I know that for sure. When I first got them I tried it on a section of my arm and it worked. But it didn't work anywhere else.

I'm glad to see that it worked for you, sort of. I'll stick to shaving or waxing... but glad to hear that you got some decent results.

@ Curlykye, the same thing happened to me and it scared me outta my mind. The redness, peeling skin, ugh! Thank God for Vitamin E....it saved my upper lip! LOL Save your money and just wax or shave, ladies.
