My "Keep Your Curls" Secret

In my quest to avoid as much heat on my hair as possible, I'll say I've been succeeding. During these weird NYC winter months (I say weird because we've been experiencing spring-like weather the past few weeks). Though the "winter" hasn't been harsh, I'm still caring for my hair as though it has been. Frequent deep treatments and little to no heat styling has been my regimen since October.

I still do my roller sets (and it still takes about an hour to set) and my curls stay fresh (and BIG) for a MINIMUM of 7 days. How do I do this? Hmm... Check it out:

This is my hair... 4 days into my last roller set
Twist hair up (as high up as you can manage) into a LOOSE bun

Secure using a clip... This size is perfect*To keep the edges smooth, I usually wrap a silk scarf around my head before hittin' the sack.

In the morning (or whenever you're ready to go) simply take down and shake! (don't worry, the curls will "find themselves", or you can use your fingers to form)

VOILA!

So good that you can rollerset so well!
It's hard for me to do it b/c once I get to the back I hate not being able to see where I am parting the hair ARGH.

Great idea!!!!

Oh wow! Great idea. Unfortunately I gave into the creamy crack in September (my long, thick natural hair became a bit much with my currently busy schedule) so I now get a doobie at the Dominican salon on my relaxed hair. But I was looking for a way to maintain it without nightly wrapping and harsh metal pins. I'm gonna try this...

Great tip!

This works wonders on transitioning hair because new growth doesn't get tangled or messy at night. Really easy to comb in the morning. (No perm for 3 to 4 month). I'm excited!

I use that method sometimes when I dont feel like pincurling. but mostly i just pincurl everynight.

You have lovely hair and a beauty that matches its loveliness. Wondering though, to get that same set, would a hair dryer be necessary? If so, what model do you recommend? I remember years ago, we used to have hood dryers that we sat under for about an an hour or more. Are hood dryers even still made? For the past ten years, I've been blow drying and flat ironing. At night, silk sleeping caps work very well for me. Beauty supply store carries them.
Thank you for posting and sharing your hair regimen.

Hi! I'm loving your rollerset, and I myself have been using rollersets for the past month now, but when I do them I usually leave the tight curls as they are. My question to you is exactly what do you do to get it to look so straight? Do you blow dry or flat iron your roots after setting and drying?

Ebonee- I usually just run a big barreled curling iron along my edges to smooth it out a bit (I don't touch the roots inside)... that's all! Between that and wearing a scarf every night that is what gets it straight.
