I recently began taking boxing classes at Aerospace NYC (thanks to my job!). Love it! The first class was last Friday and I came to class with NO expectations. I've never taken boxing and really didn't know what to expect- which was good.We arrived (several coworkers and myself) a few minutes before the class was due to begin. After changing, we had our hands wrapped and then placed inside the boxing gloves. All wrapped up and ready to go, we were lead into a tiny room where there were several different kinds of punching bags. To start, we were taught the correct stance and then we practiced several punching combos facing the mirror. Once we had this down, we were then separated in groups to practice on the punching bags. In between sets, we did push ups (which was the killer)!
The class was an hour. My wrists, shoulders, biceps AND triceps were KILLING me all day Saturday! I haven't worked out that hard in a LONG time. Not too sure how much longer we'll have access to this class but I definitely plan on being in attendance for the time being.
Because as I learned on Oprah last week:
EXERCISE IS NOT NEGOTIABLE!

Go Wes! That is great!
And I too so that Diabetes show on Oprah...it was really alarming!!! I think I do things in moderation but I could be doing more and after seeing that show I want to do more, starting w. the 'exercise is not negotiable' attitude.
SO funny! I was just thinking that I wanted to try a boxing class... I'm definitely gonna check this out.
I starting be convinced you can read my mind. Every single time no exaggeration you post about something new, I have just either read, watched and decide whether to do it or not you post about it. It's getting freaky unless it's just great minds think alike..;)
You're right...exercise is non-negotiable. I took a boxing class last Tuesday and thought I was going to die. Good for you that you endured the whole class. It was much like bootcamp. I'm going to get my cardio up and give it a shot again.
I just joined a boxing gym. I am in the DC area and we have been hit with two blizzards back to back so I have not gotten to start. But I am so looking forward to it. any tips on preparing for your first class?
Jad928, the best advice I can offer is to come w/o expectations. Have an open mind and be ready to work hard. Other than that, there really isn't anything to prepare for- Just relax and have fun with it.
