I recently borrowed a tube of LaMaur's Bone Marrow Deep Penetrating Treatment from one of my coworkers- just to see how it would work, or if it was effective. According to the tube, it says:"Use after coloring, bleaching, perming, or any other salon service. For proper hair maintenance, use on a regular once-a-week basis to keep hair moisturized, conditioned and in manageable condition."
I did some research (LaMaur doesn't have website), I found a lot of mixed reviews. Some say the Bone Marrow worked like a charm- leaving their hair silky smooth and tangle free. Others had the opposite experience; hard, unmanageable, extremely tangled hair. So, I decided to find out for myself just how well this stuff works.
After a clarifying shampoo, I applied about a palmful of the Bone Marrow DP to my hair. This stuff stinks! So, I used about a half a palm of my Coconut Milk Conditioner from Organix to help get rid of the smell. Afterwards, I covered with a plastic cap and put on my hair therapy wrap for about 30 minutes, then rinsed.
My hair was soft, shiny and smooth. No complaints here- I proceeded to blow dry and twist (for a dry twist out, which I've never done before- I'll post the results later this week! ;-)
*The first 5 ingredients: (Explanation/definition courtesy of tightlycurly.com)
- Water: (Okay) Average hair care products contain about 50%-90% water. The rest of the ingredients determine the look, feel, and performance of the product.
- Quaternium-18: (Caution) Okay detangler; Made from cellulose (plant fiber). Used to keep products from separating. Gives hair shine. Conditions hair and helps reduce fly-aways due to static electricity.
- Hydrolyzed Collagen: (Okay) Collagen is a type of protein found in animal tissue such as ligaments, tendons, bone or skin. Collagen fibers are long and thin. They aren't water soluble.
- Glyceryl Stearate: (Okay) Used for its conditioning properties, and is often used with other emulsifiers to keep a product from separating into its oil and water components. It's a lightweight conditioning ingredient that gives a dry, smooth feel when rubbed in.
- PEG-100 Stearate: (Okay) Thickens product.
Have you ever tried Bone Marrow DP Treatment?

WOw, flashback from the past. My mom and cousin who used to do my hair used to use this and Hask Placenta on my hair when I was younger. I had a relaxer then and remember my hair feeling soft, but it was always after a fresh re-touch. Haven't seen this product in years and haven't used as a natural. And probably won't. I'm becoming a natural ingredient nazi...oye...lol,lol,lol
I never heard of this. I can't wait to see the results.
I've used it and I didn't like it. It smells bad like you said and it also made my scalp itch.
I'm probably going to be talking completely out of my neck but:
Shouldn't they be saving bone marrow for something life-threatening and not vanity? Or can animal bone marrow not be used on humans?
Like people who are paralyzed, people with cancer, etc? I know it's illegal but there are some place where it's legal.
I don't think animal bone marrow can be used on humans.
I know I'm joining in uber late!!! But I recently used this on a relaxed client and I loved the results. Her hair was weak and shedding prior to using this, but afterwards, not at all. It was strong, with body and shine. I was impressed, so much so I was tempted to use it on my own hair which is natural. I decided not to tho because its a protein treatment. But if any natuals have used this I'm dying to hear results!!!
