Texturizer?

I'm trying to find the best (and safest) solution to managing a STRAIGHT hairstyle in hot, sticky, humid weather. Some have suggested texturizing my hair but I'm not sure how I feel about that (seems to be too much like a relaxer)... But what do you gals think? Have you ever (or do you currently) used a texturizer?

Tell me about it!

Don't! It is basically like a relaxer. You will regret it. And then you will have to gradually cut it off.

I say no. A texturizer is just another form of a relaxer in a sense. It chemically alters your curl pattern.

Dont do it! A texturizer is just a mild relaxer. I would just give the straight hairstyles a rest for the next 2 months. Plus with your hair texture a wash n go gives you nice uniform curls. Straight styles are hard to maintain in the summer. How about trying a rod set? I think if you get a texturizer you might regret it! Plus doesnt a texturizer just loosen youre curl pattern. It wont necessarily make it easier for you to have a straight hairstyle in this heat.

a texturizer is just a mild perm. Take for instance the women who texlax. They add oil to the perm to dilute it and essentially get the same results, just a little straighter in most cases. If you're intention is temporary styling, this isn't the way you'd want to do. The only option I can think of that will allow you to keep your curls chemical free is a sew in. That's the only way you're natural hair won't revert once you step outside. If you are okay with perming, than a texturizer is mild or you can texlax which allows you to choose how weak you want the relaxer to be. hth

A texturizer is the exact same product as a relaxer, just a weaker formulation & not left on as long. But it will chemically alter the sulfide bonds in your hair, to loosen the curls but not make them completely straight.

If you want to maintain a straight style, I would look at products like Sabino Moisture Block or the Aveda Anti-Humectant products.

I have a natural friend that recently did a texturizer for a similar reason. It ruined her hair and now she has to transition all over again (I told her not to do it). She has been in weaves and braids every since because her hair turned out so bad.

I've been natural all my life and wore press-n-curls all day everyday. I never had a problem keeping my hair straight in any weather - except rain. On those days I wore a ponytail. What issues are you having?

As far as I knew a texturizer was basically a relaxer you leave in for a shorter time.

Hey So I used a texturizer, before I went natural, because someone told me that it was natural, but just made ur hair manageable. That is a lie. Like the others said. It is just a mild form of a relaxer. It does the exact same thing. Texturizer and texture softeners have the same chemistry as relaxers. So whether you want to do it is still up to you, but just so have the chance to make an informed decision, try to google info about it. Good luck!

I agree with Stacey. Texturizers are just mild relaxers.

I agree with everyone else don't do it. Because if your hair it's free of chemicals why go back. Plus It has a similar effect on your hair as a relaxer when I used to chemically process my hair I used to do it with a texturizer. My opinion is you shouldn't plus u have beautiful hair.

Hi Wes! So happy to see you posting again. If you haven't already, check out the Mizani Thermasmooth Smooth Guard serum and anti-humidity spritz. I grew my relaxer out last summer and was able to maintain my stick straight bob in the sticky Washington DC weather with these products. They are expensive (and very siliconey) but in my experience they worked well. Good luck!

I did it before and regretted it. Does NOT keep your hair straight at all. It will still curl because that's what our hair does :) It is a relaxer and actually has the same PH balance as the others. I had to transition out of it just to find out that my natural hair is way better than the texturized hair. DON'T do it....you'll really regret it but the choice is yours.

Hey Wes!!

DON't DO IT Sparks!! I know how you fee! I live in humid sticky hot weather! My island is pretty much summer all year long!

But I did some product research and bought the Croc 2 with infrared. BEST $80 I've spent. One swoop straight shiny hair without any products and my hair STAYS straight until I fully wash it out with shampoo and conditioner. Water nor humidity does not affect my hair!! I love it!! It's like a temporary hair texturizer and when you first wash your hair, the waves are still looser.

I say invest in a Croc2 and leave any traces of creamy crack.

I had texturized my hair two years ago to help me manage my natural hair: biggest mistake of my life!!!! Don't!!! I consider it like poison to curls!!!!
