I transitioned during my pregnancy and have been natural for 5 months. I love it!! So many options, I love myself even more. I treasure styling my hair. Natural hair looks so unique. I do not miss wearing a tired wrap. For those of you that say it takes a long time how are you styling your hair? I love finger coils, coil outs and wash and go. Any curl definer will work.

New to your site, but I afrobella was also one of the first sites that I found while transitioning. I just BC'ed(6/14), so I can't answer really answer your question. I don't really care for the length but I don't regret my decision at all, I can't maintain relaxed hair at school and it doesn't mesh well with swim & track practice. So, Here I am. Love your site.

It's like I had an epiphany one day that if I cut off my relaxer, I'd actually add to my style options rather than take away from them. I'm a hairstylist so I'd never really looked at getting a relaxer as holding onto a set mentality or hating my own hair but a means to be creative, especially because cutting asymetrical cuts were like my favorite thing to do (not behind a chair at the mo).

However seeing the percentage of black women with perms as well as learning more about relaxers not as a pro but a consumer truly changed my outlook, coupled with seeing all of the natural styles on campus when I went to Temple Univ.

I cut it all off and wore weaves until it grew to a lenght I liked, not long after that I loced. Right now I'm rockin yarn braids (cut my locs a few years ago) may loc again but am enjoying the versatility too much right now.

Every now and again I'll flat iron my hair straight but I honestly don't miss straight hair it's an option to what my hair is naturally for me. I am still obsessed with color:) and will also rock a weave in a minute when I want to change up or wear one of the styles that I loved when I did have a perm.

I'd recommend it for anyone and to be open about it to where your not locked into just okay I have to wear my hair this way and that's it, no shame in switchin it up.

Last thing and husing promise:) To the comments about sometimes hating it, no matter what the hair texture truth be told there is always something. People with bone straight hair hate their hair in humidity or the fact that it doesn't hold a curl the way they'd like those with cowlicks in the front wish they didn't have them. Too short too long too thick too thin and on and on. Always something regardless of the texture. When I worked in a salon majority of the time those with straight hair wanted curly perms and those with curls wanted straight. Did all hair types so bottom like will always be something that we love or hate about our hair regardless of texture IMO.

Love the interview! I am relaxed but I have have natural curly thoughts...lol I may get there one day. Right now I am concentrating on keeping my relaxed hair healthy. I love the look and feel of natural hair and since I have been researching hair in general I have an evern greater appreciation for all hair types.
